You Weren’t Sent There Just For a Paycheque

Work Life Balance

There’s a shift that happens — not outside, inside.

For me, it didn’t come in prayer.
Didn’t come in church.
Didn’t come with a big moment.

It came mid-shift.

Just a normal day. Agency sent me somewhere. I showed up like I always do — do the job, do it well, go home.

And somewhere in between the routine… it hit me:

What if I’m not here for the money?
What if I’m here because I was sent here?

That thought didn’t leave.

Because if we’re honest, most of us measure work by one thing:
How much is it paying?

Better rate. Better role. Better title.

Nothing wrong with that. Money matters.

But what if that’s not the main thing?

What if the money is just what comes with the assignment — not the reason for it?

Look at it properly.

The agency that called you.
The shift you almost didn’t pick.
The place that somehow clicked.
The people you met there.

You think that’s random?

I don’t.

I’ve seen it too clearly in my own life to call it coincidence.

I joined one agency → got sent somewhere → they received me well → I ended up bringing others in → more doors opened → more people connected.

That’s not luck.

That’s placement.

We like to separate things:

This is work.
This is God.

But what if that line doesn’t actually exist?

What if:

  • the way you speak to that confused resident
  • the patience you find at 3am
  • the way people open up to you without knowing why

…that’s the work.

Not extra.
Not bonus.
That is the assignment.

You’re not just doing tasks.

You’re calming people.
Connecting people.
Holding things together in ways no one writes down.

That’s not random ability.

And let’s be honest for a second.

Some people are too quick to decide who is “with God” and who isn’t.

No church.
No loud faith.
No scripture captions.

So they assume — nothing there.

But look again.

That person showing up daily, caring properly — they are about their Father’s business.
That colleague who never preaches but always says the right thing — they are about their Father’s business.
The one who holds space for people when things get heavy — they are about their Father’s business.

Some people are doing the work… without the noise.

You’re not just earning.
You’re being positioned.

When Bible talks about being “about my Father’s business,” most people imagine something that looks spiritual.

But what if it looks like this?

Showing up.
Being consistent.
Handling people well.
Being exactly where you’re meant to be.

Not loud.
Not seen.
But effective.

You will get paid.
God is not confused about your needs.

But don’t reduce your life to payslips.

Because if you do — you’ll miss what’s actually happening through you.

Next time you’re on shift, don’t just think:

“When am I finishing?”

Ask:

Who needed me to be here today?

That question changes everything.
