Reflecting on a Year of Growth: Triumphs, Lessons, and Gratitude – My 2023 Journey
As the year draws to a close, I find myself immersed in a sea of reflection, looking back on the lessons learned and the steps taken towards personal growth. 2023 has been a year like no other – a year of understanding my worth, recognizing my values, and gaining financial wisdom. It’s been a year of embracing hard truths and finding peace in letting go.
The Power of Walking Away
One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned this year is about recognising when I’m undervalued – and having the courage to walk away. For too long, I made excuses for staying in relationships or situations where my presence was no longer cherished. But this year, I’ve learned that walking away in peace is not just an act of self-preservation, but a gift to myself and others involved.
Self-Care Isn’t Selfish
2023 has been a year of embracing that taking care of myself is not selfish. I’ve realised that I am at my best when I prioritise my well-being. This lesson became especially clear in financial matters. In the past, I would lend money, even if it meant giving away my last penny. This year, I understood the folly in this – that helping others should not come at the cost of my own financial stability.
A New Perspective on Giving
The saying goes, “It is better to give than to receive.” While the essence of this is true, this year has taught me that there’s a deeper wisdom to this adage. As they say, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” I’ve learned it’s okay to give, but not at the expense of my own needs. Being a cheerful giver means knowing when to give and when to hold back for the sake of my own well-being.
Embracing the Divine and Finding Strength
My faith has been a cornerstone throughout this journey. I believe in a higher power, God, who guides and sustains me. This year has reinforced that belief and helped me see that sometimes, the mean things people say are more a reflection of their own pain than a true depiction of who I am. Hurt people hurt people, and recognising this has helped me not take things personally.
Looking Forward with Wisdom
As I look towards the future, I carry with me the wisdom of this year. The journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been incredibly valuable. In the words of Maya Angelou, “We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated.” This sums up my year – a journey of overcoming, learning, and growing.
I invite you to join me in this journey of self-discovery and growth. As we step into the new year, let’s remember that our worth is non-negotiable, our well-being is paramount, and our growth is a continuous journey.
Here’s to a new year filled with wisdom, love, and an abundance of self-care. Remember, we are all works in progress, and that’s perfectly okay.

2. Being too generous is something I intend to work on
3 you can’t pour from an empty cup, I intend to work on this in the new year
